A Little Surprised but not Shocked
March 27th, 2008

So Chikezie, Syesha, and Jason round out the bottom three this week.

Chik goes home. I liked him as a person, a lot. But he made that fatal flaw. He sang the wrong song, and became the dreaded musical wallpaper!
Lesson of the week: Take risks, musical wallpaper is worse then taking a risk and bombing. People remember the bomb not the wallpaper.

Sayonara, Chik.

Meh Tuesday
March 26th, 2008

And it really wasn’t the idols. I’m in a meh mood and well, it carried on into my notes. My fil is having a risky procedure tomorrow and well, AI was not really a priority for me tonight. Oh, and I won’t be around to comment tomorrow until later. I’d really appreciate anyone who believes in the power of prayer to say a bunch for Larry tonight. And thanks in advance.

So here is my half-assed recap.

It was sing a song in the year you were born night.

Ramiele started off with, hell, I didn’t write it down, sorry, but I thought finally she belted something out. It was okay, but I’m not sure it was okay enough to get her to the next round. Randy has the creeping crude and mentioned Rami did as well. Paula sounded like a frog for a minute. And does anyone think a lowly germ can infect Simon the Great? Hell no! The man is bullet proof, and on that note, I was too reoccupied to jot down notes on this performance.

Jason
sang? Never heard of the song, and while he needs to stretch musically and vocally, I enjoyed the performance. I just like his laid back goofy style. He isn’t in your face, he’s comfortable, a bit complex and enjoyable. Randy agreed. Paula Poo La La, said the same and, Yikes! Simon was right. Despite his right on comments, I still enjoyed it. Ding dong Jason didn’t get it. He thinks he needs to perfect the song not branch out.

Syesha: That baby cry thing was annoying! She sang, If I Was Your Woman? Okay, so I thought for her she sounded great, but the performance didn’t wow me. For me, kind of like that technically perfect contest entry. Perfect but not memorable. Randy agreed. Paula, blah blah blah. Simon, agreed 100%!

Chikezie
sang, If Only For One Night. I liked his breakout stuff much better. But this wasn’t awful, just meh. Kind of like my mood tonight. That said, the performance had its moments. Randy asked, “Where’s the vibe, man?” I wondered too. Paula blah x 3. Simon, was right on.

Brooke sang, Every Breath You Take. I don’t care that she screwed up in the beginning. In fact it made her more adorable. I love this girl. She is my favorite. Randy wasn’t sure. Paula, blah, she enjoyed it, blah some more. Simon said the band screwed her. Hmm. Maybe. I liked it.

Michael sang, We Are Champions. Loved it. Love him. He perked me up. Well, actually Brooke did. Randy loved it. Paula blah x 3 but I agreed. Simon said Michael has star potential. Whoo hoo!

Carly
sang, Bright Eyes. Good song choice. I liked the performance, but I’m thinking the judges may not be all warm and fuzzy about Carly. She isn’t my favorite as far as personalities go. Not sure why. But, I totally disagreed with Randy. More blah x 3 from Paula, but I did agree with some of the blahs. Simon wanted her to lighten up? I thought she looked fairly comfy up there. But what did I know?

David A sang? I wasn’t paying attention. But the voice for me in the beginning was off. Too low. But it picked up. He’s peaked. Others are passing him by. Not saying he isn’t good, he is, but he needs to streeeeetch. Overall, meh for me. I totally understood where Randy was coming from. Paula? Check. Simon? A theme park with little animated animals? How funny, but sadly, true. I liked it better then that but totally got his POV.

Kristy Lee. Surprise surprise surprise. Why you sly little minx you. Play to your strengths. Appeal to the heart of America then belt out their song. Wise choice. Her best performance so far. Randy said, “Very nice performance.” And he meant it. Paula said, “Your voice is sounding stronger.” Wow, what an observation. Simon said, “Your best performance by a mile.”

David Cook. David David David. What an intelligent performer you are. See? The man takes risks, breaks the rules, and breaks them right. Better then right, he blows them away. He has no freakin’ rules! I love Billie Jean. It’s one of my all time faves. He made it sound so damn soulful, gritty, and full of emotion, I forgot who Michael Jackson was. I was completely wowed by his performance. Once again I want his rendition.
Randy said, “Dude, you might be the one!” Paula, blown away, blah blah now shut up. Simon said, “That was a brave performance. Amazing.” I think he said amazing. Did he say amazing? I must have. He should have.

So there you have it. My half-assed version. I think it’s Ramiele or Syesha. Kristi has the heart of America vote this week.

Whatcha think?

Hugs

AI Surprise
March 20th, 2008

Sort of. I knew the bottom three would all be girls, but I didn’t expect Carly to be one of them. I’m not surprised Amanda went, but frankly I’m surprised Kristi didn’t go before her. Not sure who’s voting for her. Maybe VFTW?

Anyhoo, that girl has got to step it up! So does, Syesha and Ramiele. Jason does too. His cuteness can only get him so far.

So, while I was mildly surprised, I wasn’t shocked by the results.

You?

A mixed bag o’ Beatles
March 19th, 2008

I found myself really at odds with the judges tonight, most especially Randy and Simon. What I didn’t care for, they did, and what I totally dug, they didn’t.
My favorite performance tonight was Michael, followed by David C.

So let us begin with Amanda who sang, Back In The USSR. I was hoping she’d rock it out. But once again I found myself on the fence. She just sounds the same to me each week. Hubby did say if she gets the opportunity to do some Skynard she’ll bring down the house. He may be right, but I’m not so sure she’ll get the chance. I don’t think she’ll go home tomorrow night. But, I thought she looked really comfortable up on stage tonight. And boy what a difference a week makes, huh? She showed some spunk afterwards. Randy gave her a 7, I agree. Paula Poo La La rambled. It was funny to watch Simon watch her lips move but not make any sense. I cringed when Simon got his turn. But he’s right. She needs to mix it up. She’s a one dimensional singer. Unfortunately for Amanda I don’t think she was listening to Simon. Her loss. Literally.

Kristy Lee sang, Hide Your Love Away. She’d better hide. It was horrible. Not as horrible as last week, but Kristy is his-tor-ee. Okay so to be fair, I enjoyed how she began, but it didn’t last. Randy hit the nail on the head: It needed more emotion. Leave it to PPLL to tell her how gorgeous she looked. Simon’s comment, “it was musical wallpaper,” was right on. Another forgettable performance.

David A sang, Long and Winding Road. Much improved from the crash and burn last week. Very powerful performance. And egads! I agreed with everything PPLL said! But I have a question: Is David’s cuteness beginning to annoy anyone else? Or is it just me?

Michael sang, A Day In The Life. I love the timbre of this guy’s voice. LOVE. IT. I thought his performance was exceptional. I was alone. Randy, gave it a thumbs down, but Paula disagreed. Yikes. Two in a row for me and her. Simon called his performance a mess? Which Mike was he listening to?

Brooke sang Here Comes The Sun. I’m smiling as I typed that. She is the sunshine. I enjoyed it, but then I enjoy her. She really is too cute for school. Randy loved the Woo! So did Karin. Paula uttered the L word. And Simon? All I can say is :(
And Brooke? She kept smiling. Chin up, sweetheart. You’ll wow them next week.

David C sang, Day Tripper. I loved it! He looked very comfy up there. Totally dug the Peter Frampton voice box. But David needs to watch out. He’s getting a wee bit too cock sure of himself up there. I see shades of Daughtry. Didn’t like it then, don’t like it now. Randy and Paula liked it, hubby and I completely disagreed with Simon. David C needs to take some humility from the other David.

Carly sang, Blackbird. I thought it was beautiful. And, does she not have the most incredible blue eyes? Randy said, “Kooliosis.” PPLL agreed. Simon, totally disagreed!

Jason sang, Michelle. Okay, so I am soo biased, even if the ding dong didn’t know ma belle was French. Hubby said the performance was juvenile. “But he’s so cute!” I countered. Simon nailed it as usual. Jason’s face sold it. But the boy needs to step it up.

Syesha sang, Yesterday. Sounded to me like she began too soon then rushed. Shaky voice. I wasn’t feeling it. To me her nerves showed and her voice was thin and pitchy in areas. IMHO she doesn’t have the voice to carry that song. Randy disagreed with me as did PPLL. Simon? While I agree with many of his comments, for me it wasn’t as good as they all seemed to think it was.

Chikezie sang, I’ve Just Seen A Face. I totally dug it, bad harmonica and all! Randy: DISAGREED. PPLL: egads again! I agreed with her! Simon, Simon, Simon. Sorry, disagreed.

Ramiele sang, I Should Have Known Better. Love this song. But I didn’t think she nailed it. Not even close. She really needs to step it up. I was waiting for Simon to say it sounded karaoke. Instead he said, amateurish. Randy liked it, and PPLL actually said nothing after the words bumbled out of her mouth.

So, not the most impressive night but for me some shining stars. Kristy is, as I said, his-tor-ee. I hope she can buy her horse back.

Thoughts?

Okay, so I should be writing
March 17th, 2008

And I will get back to it shortly, but I’m in one of those melancholy type moods. One of those looking around at my world, and the people in it, and feeling pretty damned blessed kind of moods. Yes, I’ve had a couple of glasses of some stellar Silver Oak cab with my fil tonight, and yes the family was over as they are want to be on Sunday’s, and yes there was the usual family this and family that, but as we dug into a box of incredible Italian desserts my soon to be son-in-law’s dad brought us from southern California, I was feeling pretty fat and happy. Literally. I gained five pounds tonight.

After everyone had gone home or snuggled in for the rest of the evening and I hopped online and found more of my family. My cyber friends. And friends who, when I can’t see them in person I see on line, I was feeling more of the warm fuzzies.

Yesterday I missed a family baby shower. I was really bummed. But I had made a commitment to a wonderful librarian in Santa Rosa long before the shower was scheduled, and even though it was a frustrating ride up there, once I was there, I was glad to be. I hooked up with my g-friends, Candice Hern, Jami Alden and Brenda Novak. The Santa Rosa BN folks were there and very gracious. Jami and I had lunch afterwards and, well, it was just good. I was tired when I got home, but the family was waiting to go to dinner, and so, me, hubby, the kids, and my in-laws were off for pizza and wine. At the pizzeria we saw friends as we entered, friends when we were inside, and friends as we were leaving.

This afternoon, I sent my husband to the grocery store, which is no less then five minutes away, for only a few items. After an hour I grew concerned. I called his cell. “Where are you?”
“In the parking lot talking with Julie.”
Sigh. When he finally came home I learned Julie was the last of many friends he’d bumped into. I’ve said this before: The man cannot go anywhere in this town without knowing someone!

I’ve often said a person can measure themselves by the company they keep. I feel pretty tall right now. Is it me or do you feel the same way?

K* who is pouncing on NAUGHTY! muwhahahahahaha

Hop On Over To

Murder She Writes, you might get a kick out of my blog. Or maybe not. :)

Also, hop on over to Barbara Vey’s blog today at PW, she needs the hits. The gal is going to New York and needs the power of readership numbers behind her.

Doh!
March 13th, 2008

So I came up to post last night and got side tracked!

Geez, see if I have a beer with my tacos again. So, we all had David H pegged to go home, but I really thought Kristi would go first. Oh, well. If she keeps up the sub par work she’ll go next week.
Did you see how shocked David was though?
I’m looking forward to next week. I think the Idols are only going to get better. I’m dragging though about watching Dancing next week. Maks is not participating this year, and none of the celebrities interest me. Maybe I’ll sit this year out. It sure as hell isn’t like I don’t have a book or two to write.

How about you? Are you going to watch Dancing?

K* who is off to have tea with the ladies today. :)
